My dear Sir
Tomorrow I leave this place for Norfolk, where I embark for the Mississippi. I have been to the seat of Government & have urged your interests, but I find strong prejudices prevail on account of the capture which you made & the consequences which ensued __ in the result my friend, it is not in my power to be to you a messenger of Good news - & I have postponed writing to the last moment _ the building of the 74 will not be hurried, unless urged by circumstances unexpected, I apprehend in the mean time you will hold your rank & Emoluments ___ be patient, be prudent, Use your family in Maryland, & hope for a change favorable to you ____ Embrace your amiable Lady & Family for me, & believe me with affection sincerely yours /signed/ Wilkinson
