Springfield Nov.r 29. 1799 -- Sir, Your letter of the 21 st ins t I had its honour of receiving yesterday and agreeable to your directions, I have enclosed duplicate receipts for [undecipherable] = send six hundred Dollars on account of the Armory - I have taken the liberty to trouble you with them - wishing you would be so obliging as to desire the Treasurer that the money be forwarded in Post notes as US Bills from one to five hundred Dollars - the difficulty and embarrassment of obtaining hard money for Bills of large amount is my apology for troubling you with this request which I hope you will have the good [undecipherable] to accept. -- -- I am Sir with the utmost respect Your obedient servant Joseph Williams [flourish]

Here follows a [undecipherable] of the receipts forwarded for the money mentioned in the above letter - Springfield Novr 29, 1799. received of Samuel Meridith Esquire United States Treasurer nine thousand six hundred Dollars being the amount of my Estimate of expenditures on account of the Armory for the months of Oct r & Novr 1799 forward d to and approbated by the Secretary of War for which sum I am accountable for the due application having syned two receipts of this tenor and date - signed Note, the above letter & receipts were never sent --- Joseph Williams Paymaster & Public Store Keeper [flourish]
