Lieutt James McKnight Sir, The President of the United States by and with the advice and Consent of the Senate, having appointed you a Lieutenant of Marines, in the ship of War-- Delaware, you will be pleased to commence the recruiting the complement of Marines allowed to said ship to wit. one Sergeant - one Corporal, one Drum-- one Fife and twenty one Privates
In the Performance of
this Duty you will pay particular attention to the Rules and Regulations herein after mentioned.
For Rules & Regulations ------- Pages 5.6 &7. Given at the War office of the United States, this fifteenth day of June A.D. 1798, and in the twenty second year of the independence of said States.
