Whilst I thus point out the situation of those Counties, I must further remark that every quarter of the extended frontier of this State is open to similar outraged: I mention this in order that the President may take the general defense of the said frontier under his consideration. The Militia remaining subject to the call of the Commandant of the Federal troops are not being drawn into service upon prefsing [pressing] occasions, has abated the confidence of the people in Government and should a general prefsure [pressure] take place (which from the present aspect of affairs I have reason to apprehend I must in a short pers___t? be reduced to the dangerous sup___? of imprefsing [impressing], and this in my opinion is to be avoided as much as pofsible [possible] by every Government.
