                           The accountant of the War Department being 

absent I have just to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 24th [undecipherable] and to inform you that the papers of the Office being all packed up ready for removal to the City of Washington the information you request cannot be given until their arrival there

absent, it has become my duty to inform you that on settlement of the account of nicklin & Griffeth the sum of Dolls. 383. 80/100 has been paid them; being the amount of the purchase money of 2 Iron 9 Pound Cannon; & which appears by a letter from Capt Theodor Meminger Commandant at Fort Miffin to have been received by him at the said Fort & remain there at this time- You are requested to make the necessary entries on the Books of your Office
