Dear Sir,

Whereas I had given unto Capt. Alexander Patterson a power of receiving from you the back pay which was due to me as a Captain of the 6th Pennsylvania Regiment, and am Desirous to know to what sum my back pay amounted to, which he received from you; you would greatly oblige me by giving to the Barer David Dills a few Lines with the amount; I would have wrote to you Sooner on the subject, but it is seldom an opportunity offered from this Quarter. - in the full confidence that you will grant me that favour, I have the honor of Subscribing my Self!
