Accountant's Office April 9th, 1801


Capt. Meriwether Lewis

Sir: The accounts of Major Hunt, Cap'ns, Thompson, Pasteur, Rosecrantz &Vieu't. Rogers for travelling expenses which were presented by you at this office I have perused. Before a settlement thereof can be made I must be informed whether the officers who have charged for servants actually travelled with them & whether the journey was performed by water or by land, & if in either case they were transported by a conveyance furnished by the public. The officers certificates to the above effect will be necejsary. The accounts are accordingly inclosed.
