Sir Nathaniel Smith has received a Credit at this Office for 3000 Cartouch Boxes, delivered [undecipherable] the Public Stores, at Philad.a, agreeably to your request dated 6 [undecipherable] 1800_ at 1 14/100 d.rs amounting to $3420._of which you will be pleased to make the necessary entries on the Books of your Office_

A receipt signed by Solomon Ellis for Dan.l Elam Contractor in the State of Georgia for D.rs 27079 49/100 on account of his Contract for the Year 1800 was presented at this Department from the Treasury as a remittance received from you as Collector of the Customs. Before you can receive a credit therefor it is necessary that a Warrant should issue for the amount from this Department in your favor_ It will be necessary therefore for you to show by what authority the advance was made, and on what documents; whether on the abstracts of the Contractor being delivered to you or his accounts lodged in your possession_satisfactory evidence to this effect will be required before such Warrant will issue. If you are possessed of the accounts or abstracts of the Contractor you are requested to forward them to this Office
