Sir, I have to acknowledge the receipt of your Letters of the 10th, 11th, & 12th instant. The Map & lefser? Seal of the Department also came safely to hand.

There were two sizes of Commifsions in use in the War Office: it appears from your & Mr. Hodgdon's letters that the larger one, which was adorned with a number of emblematic figures and usually given to the Field Officers is the only one that you have engaged to have copied. I clofe close herewith one of the fmaller smaller size conformable with which I request you to have a plate prepared with as little delay as pofsible possible.
If the smaller one can be finished sooner by postponing the larger one, you will please to give order accordingly as it is much wanted. 
You are authorised and requested to purchase the Articles called for by the Superintendent of Military Sto... agreeably to the Lists forwarded with your Letter of the 11th on file in my office. 
General Stevens is Agent for the Department at New York Archibald Crary Esq. at Newport Rhode Island & Jonathan Jackson Esq. at Boston. There are none at Portland, Hartford or Baltimore. 
I have directed the Treasurer to transmit to you Ten Thousand Dollars to enable you to make the required purchases.
