Dear Sir, Philadelphia 20th November 1800 I received your letter of the 20th Inst. last evening & will thank you for your continued attention to Captain Reads Note- The loss at the War Office will be severely felt in the prosecution of the bussness - and the loss of the Secretary of the Treasury is another severe stroke– he quits his office on the first of January next– federal men and measures are still likely to be the order of the day– the Demo’s nash their teeth and melt away– I am glad the Troops have at last proceeded– Ten Twentyfour pounders are on the road for Pittsburgh for the western Posts- several 12’# gs will soon follow for the same purpose- I hear nothing of the Generals leaving Headquarters- doubt much if he will for some time- adieu- yours very sincerely Samuel Hodgdon Major Isaac Craig-
