Philadelphia December 21th 1799 Major General Hamilton has received thro the Secretary of war the following orders from the President of the United States. - The President with deepe regret announces to the army the death of its beloved Cheif General George Washington, Shear- ing in the grief which every heart must feel, For so hairing ^heave and a affecting, or public loss, and desires to express his high since of the vast debt of gratitude, which is due to the virtuous, talents, and ever - memorable services of the illustrious deceased, he directs that funeral honors be paid to him, as all the military stations, and that the Officers of the Army, and of the official corps, of Volunteers, wear --- on the left arm by way of mourn= =ing, for five months. Major General Hamilton, will give the necessary orders, for carrying into effect the following directions. ___ The imperitive terms, in which this great national calamity an= =nounced by the President, could recurr no new force from any thing that might be added.
