Sir

I have received your letter dated the 29 Instt.

with its enclosures--the receipt [illegible] for pay of yourself [illegible] to the 31 March 1799, has been examine, the amount found therein receipted, being Two thousand one hundred & forty Dollars & 57/100, will accordingly be placed to the credit of your account, on the books of this Office.

On examination of your recruiting account I find

that you have paid several of your Recruits the full Bounty of Twelve Dollars, whereas the Law expressly mentions that the payment of 4 dollars thereof, shall be deferred until they have joined the Army, agreeably to which, you have received a credit only of 8 dollars on account of bounty to each of the aforesaid Recruits, previous to admitting the claim of John Derham, fifer, said to be engaged by direction of the Secretary of War, it is necessary that the directions given be transmitted to this Office-- it is proper also that you state a seperate account of your subsist= ence, mentioning the periods for which the rations are due & annex your certificate thereto, certifying that you have not drawn any rations nor money in lieu thereof, for the periods therein charged--

Agreeably to the above corrections you account has

been stated to the inclose copy for your government by which there appears a balance in your favor of Dollars 149.67.--which remains subject to your order--

I have also received your muster of Pay rolls for the
