appears by his charge for billeting that he did not confine himself to this stipulation, as he charges at the rate of twenty shillings per week for the Officers and nearly 101 per week for the men from this circumstance I conclude he left it optional with the Officers and men either to receive their rations or in lieu thereof the allowance made by Congrefs [Congress], under this Idea I have admitted to his credit the sum of twenty shillings per week for the Officers and one dollar for the men which is allowed by the Act of Congrefs [Congress] of the 12th October 1775.

1775 The Colonel charges and expects a commifsion [commission], of this I do not think myself authorized to act on, but submit the same to you - you will find by Mr. Sherman's letter that he was promised a reasonable compensation for his trouble.
