Federal commissioners for conference at Sandusky report that interpreter Jasper Parish has arrived with letters from Knox and wampum resupply. Other interpreters, Mr. Wilson and Mr Ash arrived with letter from Major Isaac Craig outlining their terms. Moravian missionaries, including John Hockwelder. Wilson assessed as intelligent and useful; did not make it to rapids of Miami. Colonel McKee involved in preventing this. General Chapin and Colonel Butler mentioned. Western Indians waiting on Six Nations to attend conference. Commissioners will proceed to Ft Erie to board vessel on 26 June 1793. Chapin will accompany commissioners to conference at Sandusky; his experience considered useful as Superintendent of Indian Affairs. Chapin thought it well that government was forbidding expeditions northward of Ohio as a means to allay Indian jealousies and alarm and perhaps help move negotiations along. Commissioners ask whether they can consider proceedings to be under the laws of a truce; will to impress on Indians the propriety of maintaining a truce during treaty negotiations. Express that minds of southern tribes will be quieted and peaceful. Commissioners hope they can relieve the anxiety of President of United States General George Washington, but no indications of success quite yet. Close by mentioning verbal communication of Mr Baynton.
