Sir
The President of the United States by and with the advice and consent of the Senate has appointed you Major General, and of course commanding officer of the troops [unknown addition] of the United States.
You will please immediately to [unknown] your acceptance or non acceptance of this appointment.
In order that you may judge of the pay [unknown] imoluments [emoluments] for the Commisioned and non commisioned officers [unknown] in the service of the United States. I enclose [for] you the act of congressrelative to the military establishment.
In case of your acceptance, you will please to file the oath of office as prescribed by law.
