113 Philadelphia April 2d. 1787 Dear Sir

Some days ago I was up in the Welch

Valley where I seen Mrs. Reese, widow of the late Capt. Jno. Reese who belonged to Colonel Wood's regiment Part of which regiment was in Canada in 1776 to my knowledge. Captn. Reese died about two months since and left a small family with very little Property to support them. Mrs. Reese in expectation of getting a settlement with the Paymaster General, Mr. Price [?], at New York intended going there. She says the papers which he had, as evidence of his claim were given to you some time since, in order to have his Claim ascertained. I advised Mrs. Reese against going to N. York as the Expence of the Journey would be considerable, and that I would write you on that subject requesting that you would be so obliging as to examine the papers above aluded to and to get the Justice done to her poor family that they are entitled to, by doing you will be freeing the widow &c. fatherless in a very particular manner-- N.B.-- I am Dr. S. &c. Jno. M. Taylor [flourish]
