Philadelphia January 12th, 1784

Upon receipt of this, you will proceed to French Creek where there is a magazine belonging to the public, your business when there arrived is with the utmost attention to superintend it, and thereby prevent loss either by accident or design, for this purpose you will obtain quarters as contiguous to the magazine as possible, and every morning, noon, and evening you will go to it and know that it is in Safety for this service your wages shall be eight Spanish Mill'd Dollars per Month. As often as necessary you will inform me the State of your charges, especially if any Attempt y breaking in or otherwise is discovered - you shall promptly receive your pay as it becomes due.
