Extract of a Letter from Andrew Pickens
 
Esquire to General Clarke
 
Hopewell 28<sup>th</sup> April 1793
 
"I received this morning by express from a friend
 
that the whole of the Creek nation except the [undecipherable] had declared
 
War against the United States that John [Golphin] with five hun
 
dred Warriors, had set out about sixteen days ago to join the
 
Seminoles and was to fall on the southern parts of Georgia but my
 
information leads me to believe that they intend to make a [undecipherable]
 
along the frontier of Georgia and this State.

Our frontier settlers still continue in a state of
 
alarm for notwithstanding the waters still remain high, the refia-
 
tions from Indian murders and depredations of every kind are of
 
so short duration that the Inhabitants have not a moments security.
 
The number of militia drivers with actual service in consequence of
 
the
