James Powell Esq. Savannah Georgia March 4 1801 Sir A receipt signed by Solomon Ellis for Dan. Elam Contractor in the State of Georgia for D.^rs 27079 49/100 an account of his Contract for the Year 1800 was presented at this Department from the Treasury and a remittance received from you as Collector of the Customs. Before you can receive a credit therefor it is necessary that a Warrant should issue for that amount from this Department in your favor. It will be necessary therefore for you to shew by what authority the advance was made, and on what documents, whether on the abstract of the Contractor being delivered to you or his accounts lodged in your possession satisfactory evidence to this effect will be required before such Warrant will issue. If you are possessed of the accounts or abstracts of the Contractor you are requested to forward them to this Office
