In a letter which I have received from Robert Gilmer Esq of Balto. under date of the 15th Inst.sup>t he informs me that all the salt petre to be manufactured into Powder under the former contract was completed & the Power at your disposal. He requests that I would forward the salt petre that was to be manufactured under the new contract as soon as possible the works being at present ready to begin with it. You will please to recollect that in my letter of the 2^d of September last I enclosed a letter from Mr Gilmer & in a postscript, requested your particular attention to Mr Gilmers representation respecting his being in want of the salt petere he is to manufacture into powder. If the salt petre is to be sent from here you will please send me an order from the Secretary of War, in the Stores of that Department all the Salt petre in this place belonging to the Public is deposited. I at first understood that that [sic] the public salt petre at Boston was to be sent to Mr Gilmer you will be pleased however to give such directions for his being supplied as you may deem expedient__ I have the honor to be [indecipherable]
