War Department 24th November 1800 Sir Mr. Cooper, Son of the Member of the House of Representative from the State of New York, having been appointed to explore the Copper Mines on Lake Superior, you are requested to give him any necessary aid that you conveniently can in the execution of this service, which he purposes to Commence in the Spring. I am Sir &c.
