Circular New York May 22nd 1799 - Sir, It has happened in one instance which has come to my knowledge, that the Hatts sent on for the Recruits have been destitute of Coakades & loops - in a similar case, I authorize you to procure the deficiency to be supplied and I will take care that the expence be defrayed - where there is an Agent of the War depostment you will first apply to him, to have what is necessary done - I speak only as to the hatts - With consideration I am Sir Your [undecipherable] Servant A. Hamilton Coppy I certify that the above is a true coppy of the orginal letter from Genl Hamilton to me, which I now have in my possession and that the trimmings of the hatts was in consequence of said letters- Tim Taylor Lt.
