Union Camp Accountants' Office March 19th, 1800 Sir In the examination of the Contractors account for the State of New York it appears by the general returns of rations drawn for your detachment, from mr. Henshaw (the Contractors' agent) and signed by you as correct, that you have drawn for the same day twice, on the 12 Oct. 4 8. 19. & 23 Nov. 1799. These errors will be chargeable to you unless it should appear by the original returns (which you are hereby required to forward to this Office for investigation) that the mistake originated with mr. Henshaw - in either case I hope a more strict attention will be paid to the correctness of all future returns __-I am LC W.S. The Secretary of War March 19th, 1800 Sir as I remain uniformed of some of the names of the Contractors' for supplying rations throughout the United States, which subject Individuals to great inconveniences, & is likewise injurious to the United States. I have to request that you will directions for having me furnished with a list of the existing Contractors, the names of the Contractors, & the places & period for which they are to furnish supplies, or copies of the several Contracts of which I remain unfurnished. The injury & inconveniences have arisen from Contractors making disbursements & receiving from agents to others, large sums of money on account of their supplies, or which I have remained ignorant until their accounts have been forwarded to this office for settlement, & which an early copy of the Contractor or information thence of would prevent. __I am LC W.S.
