Navy Department 19th February 1800 Secretary at War Sir The ship with salt Petre for the Public is at Norfolk-One of the owners of the Ship informs me she is in leaky condition & that it will be necessary to land apart of the Cargo at that place-I imagine it will be desirable that one half of the Cargo should be landed there, sent to Baltimore where it can be made into powder-or part might be sent to George Fom [?] where it may be sold very cheap-The Ship is under the Direction of Anthony & Co-if you determine any thing they wish it should be done speedily to day if you can, as they want to write to the Captain tomorrow- I have the honor
