Knoxville 8th January 1800 Sir

    The 25th of last month, three Chickasaw

came to me from Tellico where they had been to trade with the Factor, hearing that the Creeks hadklled two of their Nation, they was unwilling to return to their Country by land, of Consequence they became My Charge, and requested that I would assist them to get home by water. It cecame by Duty to aid them, and I have done it with as little Expence as possible in receiving in receiving their Horses at the Water ation of two Persons and fitting them out with Provisions, &c.

    I request Your

opinion respecting those Horses, that are Valuable, and which have been stolen by the Cherokees. The Treaty allows sixty Dollars for each, And the Act for regulating trade and Interecurse with the Indians an eventual indemnification Provided the Injusred does not seek revenge, If any Case should be determined by the Act for Regulating trad and, Interccurse by the INdians, I suppose sixxty Dollars ust be Charged the Cherokee Nation, and the Remainder 2
