On reconsidering the Uniform for the Commander in Chief, it has become a matter of doubt with me (although, as it respected myself, personally, I was against all Embroidery)_ whether embroidery on the Cape, Cuffs and Pockets of the Coat _ and none of the Butt waistcoat, would nor have a disjointed, and awkward appearance._ If is neither required, nor forbidden._ Which ^ then in your judgement, or that of Connosseurs,? if you should convene with any of the subject, would be most [indecipherable] in itself, & accordent to what is expected.
.__ To you I submit the matter. __ As I also do rather the Coat shall have slash Cuffs (with blue flaps [indecipherable] through them) and slash pockets, or both ^to be in the usual manner.__
These; apparently, are trifling matters to trouble you with; but, as it is the commencement of a new scene, it is desirable that the thing should take a [indecipherable] direction.__ I have therefore, upon the whole and since I began this letter, determined to direct Mr McAlpin to ^apply to, and follow your directions in making the Uniform. _ I should [undecipherable} prefer a heavy embroidery_ on one containing much work._ A light & neat one, would,
