    I have to acknowledge the receipt of

Letter of the 17 Inst. enclosing a copy of the pay roll of your company, Penna. Militia, amounting to 170 0/100 drs:, being balance of pay due them on the western expedition in attested before a mgistrate, & will be filed with the orig pay rolls on which you received the advance-- I am &c. W. L

    In consequence of your application in respect to the claim of Mrs Herkimer, widow of the General Herkimer for the half pay to the widows and orphans officers, who were killed in the service of the United states

On examining the accounts of Congress find the law granting the same was passed the 24 August and does not extend to widows of officers, killed prior to [cutoff]
