to stay till he could go to Orleans & return. In October last John Watts with 56 warriors went down to a place called the big eddy under the pretense of making a hunt, but their real object was to cross the Mississippi, and view the country in which Will has settled. It was expected by this party to meet a Spanish agent at Wills settlement with whom Watts was to hold a talk. The five towns talked of encamping at the Muscle Shoals till the bloody fellow returned. The above information received from W. Claiborne 2 Decr. 1797.
