Sir.

Captain Elliott, who commands at Mud Island Fort, has informed the Secretary of War that there is no Flag for the garrison; and has offered to make one, if materials are furnished. He sends a return of the quantity of Bunting* necessary: But previous to giving an order, please to let me know if you have a sufficient supply in store, and whether it will be most adviseable to accept of Elliott's offer, or have the flag made here. He says he understands the buildings, having made several for our western forts.

Yours respectfully,

/s/ S N Stagg
