Sir

    I have this instant received your letter of the 19th. Ultimo --

if the information you have transmitted should be [crossed out word] founded, it will be your duty to call in the name of the United States upon the nearest commanding officer of the militia for adequate guards to protect the Stores, or in case they could not be defended where they are, to remove them to a place of perfect Security. It will also be necessary that you apply to the Governor of the State, to whom I have written requesting the necessary protection
