Copy of a letter from the secretary of war H 2 Thomas Holt. dated Elizabeth town age New Jersey October 1st. 1793 new Sir H I have this instant received your letter of the 19th. altimo line H if the information you have transmitted H should be crossed outward founded, it will be your duty to call H in the name of the United States upon the nearest H commanding officer of the militia for adequate H guards to protect the stores, or in case they could H not be defended where they are, to remove them each to a place of perfect security, it will also be H necessary that you apply to the governor of the H state, to whom I have written requesting the H necessary protection HIN H Sir etc H signed Henry Knox H secretary of war H captain Thomas Holt
