Recruiting officer shell dictate, until experience cherrelyn some degree have ascertained H the Fidelity of the recruit. any money advanced contrary to this direction, H will be at the risk RISQUE of the recruiting officer. H 3 D. Every recruiting officer will be allowed the sum of 2 dollars, for the H trouble and expense of enlisting each recruit; Line provided however, that's such H allowance will not be made for any recruit who shall desert before he shell H March from the rendezvous of the troops in the state where he shall have been H recruited.
4th. Get that most pharaonis is to be used by the recruiting officers, in engaging H their recruits; no individual therefore is to be in listed in a state of intoxication H, or be sworn until after he shall have been enlisted for the space of 24 hours. H fifth period each recruit musicians excepted must be 5 feet and 5 inches in 8 H Heights, without shoes: line he must also be healthy, robust, and fundinn his H limbs and body, in all respects; and to ascertain which he must be thoroughly H Examined, previously to enlistment, by a physician for surgeon; line but if, not H with standing this direction, a recruit should have any secret disease at the time H of his enlistment, they expensive his cure, if retained in service, shall be deducted H From his pay.
6th. Eat rekrut, before he is sworn, is to have distinctly read to him the H rules and articles of war Against him utny and assertion, and relative to the administration H of justice; and also the act of Congress of the 30th of April 1790, H Is stab lising the rations, clothing, and compensation in cases of disability; and H the act of the fifth March 1792, establishing the pay; after which he is to take H the following both, before I magistrate, to wit:
"I A. B. do solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be_ to bear true alle-
giance to the United States of America, and to serve them honestly and faithfully H against all their enemies or opposers whomsoever, and to observe and to H obey the orders of the president of the United States of America, and the orders H of the officers appointed over me according to the articles of war. H seventh period each recruit musicians accepted must be above eighteen and under forty five years of age.
8th. No negro, mulatto, or indian, to be recruited.
9th. Al the recruits, if possible to be natives of fair conduct, or foreigners
of good characters for sobriety and fidelity, and who have been some years in
