Fort Pitt 7^th Novem 1791

Sir As there is a probability of a part of the Troops that are yet to come forward, arriving too late in the Season to descend the OHio before the Winter, I presume it will be necessary to provide Quarters at this Post; As I have not had Instruction from this point, shall wait your Order I must however beg leave to suggest that there is not a certainty of Boats descending the OHio, with Safety, after the tenth of December_ The Barracks in Fort are out of Repair, & indeed out of our Possession; therefore if Quarters are wanted, a House or Houses, must be Rented in Town for that purpose_

By a Gentleman who left Fort Washington on the 10^th Ultimo, We are informed that three days previous to that date the Army had moved on from their first Station 23 Miles advanced of Fort Washington and were to Establish another port at the Junction of Mad River with the Miami — And as the weather has been Remarkably fine, it is more than probable that Genl S Cain has Established his principle Post —

He also says that almost every Morning Horses were missing supposed to be stolen by Indians, that were said to be in small parties, hanging on the Flanks of the Army, but without dareing to approach in day light —

The Incidental Charges at this Port by means of Transportation, partinage & Farage of Horses, Fuel &c, beyond what I first Expected, I find Myself under the necessity of applying for a small sum to Enable me to discharge my Engagement. — Five hundred dollars, I believe will answer that purpose — but as I have no had your Order to draw for Money. I beg you may point out the mode by which I may obtain the necessary [undecipherable]
