I arrived here in perfect health this evening and am with esteem Your obdt Serv. John Pierce C Wm. Howell Philadelphia April 28. 1787 Discoursing with Cap James McLean concerning the gratuity of the year 1799, which I am deficient in he advised me to apply to your honor as the ony person who could see me righted therein, or direct em where to apply for it. you will please to examine the Books and furnish me with such Certificates as may be necessary for the recovery thereof I formerly belonged to the 5. Penn Regt. Cap James Moores Company, Commanded by Colonel Johnson, and from thence transferred tot he invalid Regt the year 1777. if your honor will please to take notice of this poor epistle, and write to Philadelphia-you will please to direct to Mr. Gaven Hamilton [Tobaconist?] in Second Street, as he is a man of some note, and will be pleased to secure this trouble from your Hum.
