Sir

We have rec.d Information that the Short Levies who served in the Army from the State of Connecticut for eight months in the Year 1782 are included in the Accounts which you are now adjusting and are Soon to receive Certificates for this Pay in the Same manner as the Line [flourish]

We have thought it necessary to inform you that the Short Levies who have in the Causes of the late War served for a shorter Period than one Year have invariably been considered by this State as Militia in the Service of the United States and that them who Served in the Year 1779. 1780 & 1781 have rec.d this Pay from this Office - - An Act of Assembly has been passed directing a Settlement to be made with those who Served in the Year 1782 and many of them have already rec.d this Pay in State Securities - - If you should [undecipherable] to include them in your amounts they will receive their Pay twice and the Public must greatly Suffer - - We trust that you will take this Matter into immediate Consideration and inform us what has been done and likewise [undecipherable] Some Method to prevent any Misunderstanding in the Settlement - - We are unhappy that it is not in our power to stop the Settlement here - but it will be impossible as the Securities are mostly issued - - - What we have now to request is that you would forward a List of the Names of those Men who are included as [undecipherable] men in your Rolls. together with an [undecipherable] of the
