Niagara September 6th.. 1798
Sir,
I inclose the Muster & Pay Rolls of this Garrison for the Month of August. The Men as I took the liberty to represent it in my last are exceedingly anxious to receive part of the arrears due them & both Captain Bruff & myself would undertake the payment rather than to suffer further delays - particularly as it renders the businefs business more and more intricate on account of the necefsity necessity of settling with discharged men who generally prefer settling in the country rather than to go to Philadelphia.
The pay Roll of last Month is made up according to the New Act of Congrefs Congress. I should take it as a favor if we were apprised of the price of the ration at this Post since the addition granted by the above mentioned act - that the Subsistance Accounts may be made out acordingly.
