To day I received your Letter of the 14 instant. I am surprised to find any difficulty in procuring the number of Bells which I wrote for, in Lancaster I am informed by those that belong there as well as by many who statedly? get Bells there that they may be had in any Numbers of proper sizes and better made than any where else at a rate not exceeding forty, Shillings a Dosen. those you speak of at ? must be much too large for my purpose. I want them loud, but not so loud, as I conceive that some? would be and as for very small ones, of such I have enough on hand. the straps to go through them and round the horses neck, must be fixed with a buckle and be made of leather about as ? as that commonly used for ? box and bayonet belts. When ? the standards I will give you my candid opinion of them, as the ? were made I think there might have come on if broken to ? we can replace them. I have your enclosed returned
