Your account of supplies to the troops of the United States in the State of Maryland from the 1" January to 20 July 1799 amtg amounting? for your statement to .... Drs. 7031.41. has been settled after making deductions of inadmifsable inadmissible charges arising from monies paid by you to the Officers of the 9" reg't in lieu of room rent & rations for their servants. The former is never allowed but under such peculiar circumstances as would render it impofsible impossible for the Officers to ? with their men & then it can only be done but by exprefs express permifsion permission of the Secretary of War...... Drs. 76.89
the latter is rejected because the Officers drawing for their servants do not certify on honor that the servants they draw for are duly inlisted Soldiers & that he or they have never been included in any other return for the time therein drawn for from which circumstances it is presumed their servants were not duly inlisted Soldiers & of course they have been deducted as per the enclosed statement.... 221.40 298.29 for which you will obtain a Credit on the Books of this Office.

By the enclosed statement you well observe you stand debited on the Books of this Office with Drs. 8286.41. from which deduct your present credit of Dollars 6733.12. will leave you debtor to the U.S. the sum Dolls. 1553.29 for which Sum you are held accountable.
