Sir
On inquiry at the Treasury Department
it appears by a letter from the Secretary dated the 25th June 1799
that the Superintendent of Military Stores was directed to deliver
to a M L[illegible 5 letters] one disc for the use of Joseph Clarke & Co. contractors
for fabricating musketts. Two hundred musket stocks out of
the public stores in Philadelphia. As the late Superintendent
omitted to include that number in a list of the names of the
Contractors who have received musket stocks which he was directed
to furnish, I have to request that you inform me whether
the aforesaid number were delivered as directed, or what proportion
thereof- that I may be enabled to charge the parties.
