Sir
I have received your letter of the 24th Ult
and Strike-through text
laid the same before the Comptroller of the U States for
his opinion thereon enclosed you will receive a Copy of his
Letter to me on the subject alluded to _ from the opinion of
Mr. Wolcott that a compensation should be allowed you I conceive it would be best for you to prepare
& arrangeyour accounts & vouchersin order previous to coming here for settlement

to prevent any delay in the settlement of your account
I mention this as I expect they will be examined by the Auditor of the Treasury
whose Clerks are generally very much engaged.
