The Commissioner of Army Accounts upon the Petition of Doctor Basil Middleton referred to him in the Secretary of War respectfully Reported -
that he has exeamind into the missle of Doctor Middletons claim for ten & half months pay [undecipherable] in the Virginia lines and finds that on the arrangment of the 1st January 1783 it appears the Petitioner was considered as a redundant Surgeon and Doctor Cornilius Baldwin alons arang and paid by the United States to the conclusion of the War - the Infantry of Virginia in the year 1783 consisted of [undecipherable] regimnet. This [undecipherable] that the necessary duties of physical attendance would not require more than one Surgeon and that the Petitioner has recieved a final [undecipherable] his account to the first of January 1783 and his having performed Service after that time
appearing rather problematical the Comm - of opinion that Settlement seuts be considered as a conclusion of his claims upon the U States and further demands consequently inadmisssable
