Regarding War Department Fire
Description
The fire, which occurred on Saturday night 8 November 1800, consumed many of the papers and has put the office in much confusion. Simmons reports that his papers were generally saved, as they were removed before the fire reached Simmons' apartments. The papers of the Secretary of War are very generally consumed.
