To Samuel Hodgdon Esq

Dear Sir
Your letter of the 19th Ulto was received on the 26th but at the moment of the imbarkation of a detachment of Troops, and Shipment of a considerable quantity of Clothing for the Continent near Fort Massac, I had not therefore, then time to acknowledge it. This day I am not favored with a line from you- With respect to the Cannon- ten 24 pounders and three 12 pounders were some time ago delivered and this day eight 12 pounders and eight 9 #ers have arrived-All of which the General has directed me to have mounted without delay- I have already in pursuance of his order, contracted for a large quantity of Shot Shells and Iron Trucks for all the Gun carriages and have provided Timber and Bar iron to complete the Carriages
The boxes you mention containing Books, shall have the necessary attention paid them on their arrival. We have the notification at last to know that the good old man has lost his election-Pray may not we very naturally conclude, that we must make way for some of the friends of the new Administration? I am &c
