Simmons requests that Claypoole attest to an account for publishing done on account of the War Department which was consumed in the fire. If the oath and related paperwork is submitted properly, Claypoole will be remunerated through a special fund appropriated for Simmons' office.

Sir
I have received your letter dated the 18" Inst
with the annexed account for printing done for this Department,
I return it to you & request as the Records of the Office are
consumed by which I could be furnished with the necessary infor-
- mation that you will attest to the account. The oath to set
forth that you were directed to publish the advertisements therein
charged, & that the rates so charged are agreeably to established
allowances for like services - The charge for your paper furnished
the War Office must be made in a separate account - and
forwarded to the Secretary - who will direct it to be paid out
of a special fund appropriated for his Office
