Sir
Last evening I received your letter of the 12th instant. By a letter received this morning I find the Secretary of War remains so unwell as to be incapable of attending to business. General Wilkinson is gone from Washington to the Springs in Virginia. Before I read your letter I concluded he meant to stay at the seat of Government during the ensuing winter. I think it full time to have the [ammunitions] on their way to their several destinations - the season is far advanced, and shortly transportation will be difficult.
I am Sir, Your Most Obedient Servant
Samuel Hodgdon
Major Isaac Craig
