Captain Patton has asked the letter carriers to pay off their balances for the last quarter. That induced Park to send Hodgdon one of the relevant circular letters since he has not had time to write individual letters and to request compliance in remitting $45 to assist in paying Captain Patton.

In consequence of a request of Capt
Patton, to the letters of this office, to pay
of their respective balances due by them so that
amount, induced me to send you one of our
circular letters, for which purpose we had them
printed, not having time to write to each of you
respectively, and attend to the other necessary business
of this office. Your compliance in remitting me
Forty five Dollars, on acct. until we return to town,
to assist me in paying of Captain Patton, will particularly
oblige Sir. Yours respectfully etc

N.B. Those Gentlemen with whom we have been in the
habit of keeping acct. with, have paid us with the
greatest cheerfulness, and thanked us for the accommodation.
