Fort Johnso, So. Carolina
6.th May 1799.
Sir,
I transmit you the returns of
the Clothing &c. &c. of Fort Johnson for the months
of March and April 1799 by which you will
see what is here and what is really wanting.
In my last letter to you I requainted you of
the want of Clothing and mentioned the several
artivles so much wanted which I must again
request maybe sent as soon as possible; not
a single pair of Linen Overalls, a few Woolen's
are now issued instead of Linen which makes
the Soldiers murmer, Woolen beeing so uncomfortable
in warm weather. you will see by the
Clothing return what articles are so much wanted.
Serjeant & Musicians Clothing and
Side Arms: Ordnance Stores, such as Sheep
Skins, Cartridge Paper and many other things
which are highly necessary and cannot be
got here and without them no defence can be
made in case of an attack on this post: you
may see by my monthly returns what is
