Title

Marking Permanent Indian Boundary Lines

Description

The Surveyor General has recommended marking the permanent Indian boundary lines in an expedient manner. Since the assistance of troops will be required and the lines marked in concert with agents of the War Department, the Secretary of War should issue the necessary directives. Since the troops failed to cooperate in the drawing of the northern boundary, it was marked in the same manner as boundaries for townships.

Sir
In the Letter of the Surveyor Genl. dated the 15th instant of which I had the honour to transmit a copy on the 15th inst, the expediency of marking the Indian boundary line in a permanent & conspicuous manner is recommended. The assistance of Troops in effecting this object on a former occasion was expected, but as they utterly failed to cooperate the northern line has been marked in no other manner than the boundaries of Townships. I concur that the markings of the Indian boundary line ought to be marked under the direction or at least in concert with the agents of the War Department, and if you on
of the same opinion I request that necessary directions may be issued.
