Philadelphia 6th June 1798.
Sir.
In addition to the Cannon already ordered from your Post, I want eight six Pounders and eight three Pounders Brass with their Field Carriages complete to be sent if possible directly to the address of John Harris Public Storekeeper in this City. If you can in a reasonable time find a vessel coming from Hartford for this Post you can make the Shipment direct, if you cannot find one coming shortly to this City, you will please to ship them to Melancton Smith Esq in New York with information that they are to be reshipped as above mentioned. I shall however in this case write to him fully on the subject. You will let me know as early as possible by post in which way the Cannon may be expected. If the Guns are sent to New York Mr. Smith will pay the Freight if to this City. I will discharge it agreeably to such contract as you may make.
