Description
The iron and stocks have come to hand but there are 25 less stocks than expected and 152 are knotty or cracked and unfit for use. Ames mentioned to the Secretary of War that a file cutter should be employed to cut over the old files. There are many files now on hand so new ones can be produced at Springfield making it unnecessary to purchase them. A good faithful man should be sent for that purpose.
